Ugly People Series
Ugly People – Painted Skate Deck Series
The Ugly People series emerged during a period of transition in style, when older materials were stripped down and reworked into something new. Leftover vinyl-printed decks from the earlier E-Girl run were taken apart using bottles of nail polish remover from King Soopers, the graphics dissolved in a small attic space.
The process left behind a strange, concrete-like texture across the surface of each deck. At the center, a painted square contained handwritten text and subtle imagery, giving the boards a raw but deliberate finish. The chemical smell of the process lingered in that attic long after the move to Tokyo, a reminder tied closely to this body of work.
Although one of the harder series to sell, landing after Eat Paint and Nothing Club, Ugly People carried a sharp energy that reflected that shift. These decks marked a moment of breaking down earlier work and reshaping it into something different.
