Skulls of Salad Bar Series

Skulls of Salad Bar – Painted Skate Deck Series

The Skulls of Salad Bar series was created during a stay in a small town outside Boulder, Colorado. Days began at 4:30 AM with the sound of chickens, followed by coffee, smoke, and long hours of painting. During that period, Pool Rooms by ZeroFuturism played often, setting the tone for the work.

The house itself left a strong impression. The bathroom featured a deep dark green tub, gold and white walls, and was filled with plants and natural light. In contrast, the kitchen remained dim, and it was there that the first skull-covered decks took shape, painted over again and again until the idea clicked: salads. Each deck became a mix of different types of salad with a skull set within it.

The Skulls of Salad Bar series grew out of that time — a mix of early mornings, heavy coffee, quiet small-town days, and raw painting energy. It stands as one of the most personal and unusual painted series in Kaba’s history.
