Just got a call from Chad and Andy over at Loco Skate Shop and they want me to make a graphic for their new shop decks. I'll be updating this post with new design ideas and eventually the finished product. Stoked to work with these guys, I love their shop and how they represent the skate scene in Longmont, Colorado.
I've never done a project for another company before so this should be dope. I told Andy that I'd let him know my price point because honestly I don't know what I should be charging for my work. Immediately after that phone call I hit up my mom and asked her a good price. She said $300 because it's my first gig and I agreed. I called Andy back and caved on myself lol, I asked for $200. Regardless, the dude said yes and I'm happy to start work on this.
Time to start painting!
Update 1: I really like the start screen for the Playstation 2. I wonder if I can incorporate this somehow?
Update 2: I added a modified Playstation 2 background to the deck and it's clustered. lol
I like the white square I got going on. That's taken from another deck I painted a while back. It was called "Waiter" I think? The Japanese says "I'm a local" so that's fitting.
Update 3: I changed the background by increasing the saturation. It's really messy lol. It's pretty interesting but I don't think it's the vibe! I also added a bunch of rectangles to the back, cut it from the center graphic. I also added some doodles and put the Rieder graphic in the background to add some white. Not sure about this yet lol.
Update 4: This is it baby. I removed the background, made it white. I also removed some skeletons but kept one dancing line for good measure. I really like this vibe.
With the white background it might be hard to understand the look. Here's what it'll look like on a board...
The shadows are cut off but you get the idea. Here's another angle...
Sending it off to LoCo! Let's hope they like it! One thing they asked is that I make a face that says LOCO somehow. My idea was to have a dude giving the L sign with his fingers and then his eyes and nose make up the rest of the word. I think it works!
Update 5: They love it! I sent it to them and I'll be seeing the decks in their shop soon! I added my Kaba logo too so I get some appreciation. Idk lol
